Car Rental Brooklyn and Past Seasons of the Brooklyn Cyclones
2001
The Brooklyn Cyclones are relatively new, coming into the game in the summer of 2001 after 44 years. The Brooklyn Cyclones played their first home game on June 25, 2001. The stands were packed with fans and media alike and they were not disappointed. With two runs down and down to their last strike, then third baseman Edga Rodriguez made a two-run home run over the left field wall and the crowd went wild. It was Mike Jacobs sacrifice fly in the tenth inning that won the game and so began the beginning of Brooklyn baseball. The Brooklyn Cyclones was welcomed by the community with open arms, with a record new league attendance at 289, 381 fans in KeySpan Park. At 52-24 the Cyclones dominated the regular season and made it all the way to the League Championships Series and faced the Williamsport Crosscutters. However, the season was cut short due to the tragic terrorist attacks on September 11 and Brooklyn and Williamsport were declared co-champions.
2002
Brooklyn's second season would see the injuries of several of its players and partially due to this it didn't make the playoff hunt. However, the excitement of Brooklyn baseball was spreading and the season was a chance for several of the players to shine. Most notably was the 18-year old from Texas, Scott Kazmir. Named by Baseball America as the nation's best high-schooler, this lefty dominated the league with a 96-MPH fastball. He struck out 34 batters during the season and held opponents to a .089 average against him.
2003
The Brooklyn Cyclones made it to the playoffs but failed to beat Williamsport. Support for the Brooklyn Cyclones was still high with the team hitting the 300, 000 attendance mark as well as coming close to having one million fans in their three-year history. 2003 was the year of the pitchers with starters, Matthew Lindtrom and Brian Bannister. The Brooklyn Cyclones also said goodbye to one of its own, Danny Garcia who was called up to Shea and moved on to the major leagues.
2004
The 2004 Cyclone season was highlighted with speed, power, and pitching to eventually win the division. Unfortunately, during the playoffs, the team lost to Tri-City partially in fact to the rain delays and cancellations. However, the Brooklyn Cyclones saw its ever increasing popularity, with 294, 229 fans, making it the highest in attendance in the league in during the 2004 season.
2005
Although the Brooklyn Cyclones made it to the playoffs, they eventually fell short of a Wild Card berth. Again, the Brooklyn Cyclones had the highest attendance record, with 9, 303 fans watching the 10-7 win over Staten Island. The 2005 season also had some exciting news, the All-Star Game, a first in the league's history, was hosted by Brooklyn on August 23rd.The National league won the game at 5-4. On another note, some of the Cyclones players including Joe Holden, Bobby Parnell, and Josh Petersen were named to the NYPL's All-Star Team.
