The programs that are offered by the museum seek to promote knowledge. They relate to our everyday urban lifestyles and maintain the highest principles of intellectual, professional and ethical responsibility of the museum. The Queens Museum of Art provides knowledge like no other and the exhibitions are truly one of a kind.

The World of Tomorrow

The New York City Building, which is home to the museum, was actually built to accommodate the NYC Pavilion at the World Fair in 1939. It was built to hold displays of municipal agencies and was one of the few buildings that was built to stay there permanently. At the end of the World Fair, the building was turned into a recreation center for the Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The portion of the building that now houses the Queens Museum used to be home to a roller rink. Aymer Embury III was the architect in charge of this building and he designed it in a modern classical style. The theme of the World Fair was, ironically, the "World of Tomorrow". The building was covered by glass brick and had corner blocks made of limestone. After two more World Fairs, the north side of the building was made into the Queens Museum in 1972. In 1994, it was drastically renovated to include some of the most spectacular exhibitions New York has ever seen. In the coming years, the museum will double in size in another renovation. What a great way to spend your upcoming NYC car rental vacation.

A Colorful Experience

NYC car rental vacationers will enjoy the different and unique exhibitions that Queens Museum has to offer. One of the most popular exhibitions is the "Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Art". Louis Tiffany grew up in a very different NYC than what it is today. People traveled in horse-drawn carriages and used kerosene lamps to light their homes. He felt drawn to nature and he wanted to paint landscapes based on places he had been to and experienced. He had always liked stained glass windows and he opened a factory where he produced thousands of surfaces in this glass. These pieces of art are highly valued by many artists and each tells a different story of Tiffany's adventures. There are other exhibitions at the museum that also have their own unique qualities. NYC car rental customers should be sure to check out the Panorama of the city of New York. "Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao: Habitat 7" and "ABCDF: Portraits of Mexico" are among the other exhibitions currently on display. It's a great opportunity for everyone.
